Adolf Schruth (born February 11, 1872 in Dresden , † October 10, 1946 ) was a German watchmaker, editor and local researcher who was one of the most important chroniclers of the Elbe valley between Dresden and Meißen in the first half of the 20th century.

Life

He was the son of the Dresden businessman Theodor Schruth and his wife Anna Johanne. After attending school, he began an apprenticeship as a watchmaker. But he soon recognized his inclination and skills as an editor. He worked for the local newspaper Die Elbaue , later he was appointed editor of the Kötzschenbrodaer Generalanzeiger .

Adolf Schruth recognized the importance of the municipal and state archives early on. Self-taught, he learned to read German script and evaluated countless archival documents from the Elbe valley between Dresden and Meißen and published numerous articles and some monographs on them. His most important works include the local chronicles of Kötzschenbroda, Naundorf, Niederlößnitz, Serkowitz and Zitzschewig, which were created in time-consuming work. In 1941, at the advanced age of 69, he was appointed city chronicler of Radebeul .
