Adolfo Bautista Herrera (born May 15, 1979 in Dolores Hidalgo , Guanajuato ) is a Mexican football player who can be used both in the attacking midfield and in the attack line. He is also known by his nickname "Bofo" and for his sometimes eccentric behavior. He is currently under contract with Mexico's most popular club, Chivas Guadalajara .

Career

Adolfo Bautista played his first professional game in the Mexican Primera División on March 7, 1998 for UAG Tecos , a club based in Zapopan near Guadalajara , with which he was under contract until 2002.

In late 2002, Bofo was sold to Monarcas Morelia , for whom he played a total of 45 games and scored 19 goals in the 2002/03 season. With the Monarcas he reached the finals of the Mexican football championship twice in a row. In the summer of 2003 he was sold to CF Pachuca , where he often had to sit on the bench and was accordingly dissatisfied. Especially with his coach Victor Manuel Vucetich, Bofo didn't get along at all - and therefore he longed to be able to leave this club as soon as possible. As a consolation for this unpleasant half year, he still has the first championship title of his career, which he won with Pachuca in the Apertura 2003.

In early 2004, Bofo was acquired by Chivas Guadalajara , where it soon became a crowd favorite. With Chivas he reached the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores twice in a row (2005 and 2006) and won the Mexico championship in Apertura 2006. His three-digit shirt number 100 remains unforgettable from this time.

But here, too, he finally messed up with his coach José Manuel de la Torre . Because in the semi-finals of the Clausura 2007 against Guadalajara's arch-rival America , Bofo missed any use. De la Torre was so disappointed with his star's weak demeanor after his team was eliminated that he immediately put him on the transfer list. Bofo, who absolutely wanted to stay and ruefully vowed to get better, even turned to the influential club president Jorge Vergara , who tried to mediate on this matter. Without success. Because De la Torre had stubbornly refused to continue to work with Bofo, Bautista was finally sold on June 11, 2007 to the Jaguares de Chiapas . There, too, he was immediately given special treatment when he received the shirt number 1, which is unusual for a striker. In January 2010 he returned to Chivas Guadalajara, where he now wears the number 7.

Bofo's inconsistent performance had already cost him participation in the 2006 World Cup because he was dropped from the squad by Mexico coach Ricardo La Volpe shortly before the big tournament. After the World Cup, Lavolpe was replaced by Hugo Sánchez , who ordered Bofo back to the national team.
