Adolfo Bernabé Zumelzú (born January 5, 1902 in Buenos Aires , Argentina, † March 29, 1973 ) was an Argentine football player and coach .

society

The El Vasco (in German: The Basque ) called Zumelzú came from the San Isidro Club . In 1925 he formed the defense of the Racing Club with Alfieri Tassara and Américo Masetti , with which he became Argentine champion that year. From at least 1927 he belonged to Sportivo Palermo . He spent the 1930 season in ranks of Estudiantil Porteño . In 1931 he had seven goalless appearances for CA Tigre in the Argentine Primera División.

National team

Zumelzú was also a member of the national team of his home country and took part with her in the first soccer world championship in 1930 . Although he was only used there in the 6: 3 against Mexico, he scored two goals there and was the first Argentine to score twice in a World Cup game. He was absent from the World Cup final against Uruguay due to injury. Zumelzú was also one of the victorious Argentine teams at the Campeonato Sudamericano in Peru in 1927 and in Argentina in 1929 . At the 1928 Summer Olympics , he won the silver medal with his home country. He made a total of 13 international matches in which he scored three goals. As part of this, he was also used at the Copa Nicanor R. Newton (1927, 1929, 1929, 1930) and the Copa Caridad Sir Thomas Lipton (1928, 1929).
