Adolph Dubs

Adolph "Spike" Dubs (born August 4, 1920 in Chicago , Illinois ; † February 14, 1979 in Kabul , Afghanistan ) was an American diplomat of Volga German origin who died in 1979 on duty. It was the last to be murdered in the US Ambassador before J. Christopher Stevens 2012 in Libya.

Life

Dubs studied political science at Beloit College . During the Second World War he served in the US Navy . After the war, he continued his studies at Georgetown University , Harvard University and Washington University in St. Louis . After graduating, he joined the United States Diplomatic Corps. He worked at the embassies in Germany , Liberia , Canada , Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union . On May 14, 1978 he became the US ambassador to Afghanistan. During this activity, he was kidnapped on February 14, 1979 by politically independent Settam-e-Melli terrorists and shot by communist government troops during an attempt at liberation. Dubs was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
