Adolph Fürstner (born April 3, 1833 in Berlin ; † June 6, 1908 in Bad Nauheim ) was a German music publisher .
Life
Little is known about Fürstner's training. Initially, he worked as an authorized signatory at the Berlin publishing house Bote & Bock .
In 1865 he traveled to Paris with members of the Berlin court theater and attended performances of Giacomo Meyerbeer's L'Africaine . Back in Berlin on January 1, 1868, he founded his own music publishing company under his name. The French repertoire initially took up a large space; Fürstner established business relationships with the Paris publishing houses Brandus, Durand, Hartmann and Heugel. As early as 1872 he acquired the rights to early operas by Richard Wagner and several compositions by Franz Liszt with the Dresden publisher CF Meser .
In 1881 he married Clara Bresch, a niece of the banker Gerson von Bleichröder . Fürstner then expanded his stock of German publishing rights with numerous foreign theater works. At the end of his life he developed a long-term collaboration with Richard Strauss .
