Adolphe Appian (* 1819 in Lyon ; † 1898 ) was a French landscape painter and etcher .

Life

He was a pupil of Camille Corot and Charles-François Daubigny , painted atmospheric pictures of the banks of the Rhone and southern France with a poetic effect, sometimes in a bluish, somewhat kitschy color .

Works (selection)

His works include the pictures exhibited in 1868: Cloudy weather , The rocky path , The Bois des Roches , The banks of the Furon in October and the two charcoal drawings : Vicinity of Rochefort and the swamp of Virieu le Grand . Several of his etchings appeared in the collections of the Society of Etchers.
