Birmingham Conservatoire
The Birmingham Conservatoire is a music academy in Birmingham with public concert halls. The Conservatory is located on Paradise Place in central Birmingham. Facilities include the Adrian Boult Hall concert hall, which is named after the conductor Adrian Boult and has 518 seats, the Recital Hall, six recording studios and a music library with approximately 95,000 scores and voices and 10,000 sound recordings.
history
It was founded in 1886 as the Birmingham School of Music , initially as part of the Birmingham and Midland Institute which had existed since 1859.
Performances
The students perform regularly in the institution's concert halls, as do internationally known musicians such as Simon Rattle , Pierre Boulez , Sakari Oramo , Paul Spicer and Jeffrey Skidmore .
Teaching
There are around 50 full-time lecturers, including active musicians, composers and musicologists. In addition, almost 200 specialists teach as tutors and guest lecturers. The conservatory works with other music academies around the world and is involved in the SOCRATES exchange program for students and teachers.
Approximately 500 students are enrolled in solo subjects, composition, chamber music, orchestral playing, music technology, and jazz.
