Adrien Quiret de Margency

Adrien Quiret de Margency also Adrien Cuyret de Margency (* 1727 , † around 1802 ) was a French officer of the Maison militaire du roi de France , Gentilhomme ordinaire de la chambre du roi , writer and encyclopaedist .

Life

He was the son of Adrien Cuyret senior († 1744) and Marie Madeleine d'Hocquinquant († 1761), both married since May 4, 1718. In 1731 the father bought a manor and bailiwick from the previous owners in the village of Margency for 57,000 livres . Margency is a parish of the Val-d'Oise and possibly the birthplace of Adrien Quiret de Margency.

As an officer, he worked in the Maison militaire du roi de France des Ancien Régime . However, he frequently frequented the salons in the city of Paris that were influenced by the Enlightenment . B. the meetings around Paul Henri Thiry d'Holbach , also Coterie holbachique or Louise d'Épinay . He wrote a number of smaller poems, which, however , were spurned by Friedrich Melchior Grimm , so that they were not included in the Correspondance littéraire, philosophique et critique . In 1761 de Margency was subject to a creative crisis similar to his more experienced colleague Joseph-François-Edouard de Corsembleu de Desmahis . He proposed marriage to his lover Marie Madeleine de Brémond d'Ars, marquise de Verdelin (1728-1810), who was widowed in 1763.
