Advent Church (Kassel)
The Advent Church is a church building of the Evangelical Church Community Wehlheiden in Kassel .
history
Until 1888 the area of today's parish Wehlheiden belonged to the parish of Weißenstein in Kirchditmold . Since the inauguration of the Advent Church on December 22nd, 1888 (the 4th Advent), the parish became independent. The church was built in neo-Gothic style on a piece of land that the Jewish entrepreneur Sigmund Aschrott gave to the community. The church has been called the Advent Church since 1909.
During the Second World War , the church was nearly destroyed by bombing raids by British bombers on the night of October 22nd to 23rd, 1943. The high spire fell on fire into Lassallestrasse, the side wings were completely destroyed and the church burned down completely.
In 1961, the reconstruction began and the church was consecrated again on the 1st of Advent 1963, in a greatly changed form, and handed over to the community. The church tower was not designed in the originally slim, pointed shape, but is now a "stump tower" without a spire. The building floor plan was also rebuilt in a very different form, as another chapel and community center were added. The reliefs of the bronze portal door were designed by Hermann Pohl and show biblical scenes for Advent. The stained glass windows were designed by Hans Leistikow and the baptismal font was designed in 1995 by Siegfried Gerstgrasser from Canadian pine.
