Life

Hugo Wach was a son of the legal scholar Adolf Wach , on his mother's side a grandson of the composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and an uncle of the religious scholar and sociologist Joachim Wach .

Wach studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Munich and then worked as an electrical engineer at Siemens & Halske and Oskar von Miller . This was followed in 1904 to study architecture among others August Thiersch . In addition, he received drawing lessons in London from Gerald Calcott Horsley (1862-1917), the son of the English painter and etcher John Calcott Horsley .

From 1910 Wach worked as a freelance architect, in between he went on several study trips to North and South America and the Far East. He could later sell in picture books and show exhibitions brought from there artistic architectural drawings - the quality deemed the jury members of the German Association of Artists as high enough to accept him as a full member in the DKB. Hugo Wach was a full professor at the Technical University of Berlin from 1919 to 1935 (1920 to 1936) . In the academic year 1923/1924 he was also dean of the Faculty of Construction.

Wach was a member of the Association of German Architects (BDA).

The Architecture Museum of the Technical University of Munich and / or the Architecture Museum of the Technical University of Berlin keep Wach's artistic estate.
