Aegror ( Latin for illness , proper spelling : AEGROR ) is a German death / black metal band from the Lower Rhine region , which was founded in 2009 by two former members of the band Nebelsturm .

history

Aegror was founded in 2009 by "Narthaas" and "Mithyr" after their previous black metal band Nebelsturm broke up in 2008. The debut album De Morbis was recorded in 2010 and released in self-distribution. In the following time bigger shows were played, among others with the bands Vomitory and Prostitute Disfigurement .

After several line-up changes and the EP Forgotten Tales in 2013, Aegror started working on her second studio album. Two pieces of music from the EP Forgotten Tales were released in 2013 on the compilation CD Perseverance 2013 by the US metal label Malevolence Records . Concerts were played with, among others, Infinight , Palace and Hammerking.

On April 6, 2017, the band announced that a record deal had been signed with STF Records and the second studio album, Dead Man's Diary , would be released on June 2, 2017. The album was already available through the band six weeks beforehand.

The first show in 2017 took place at the Monster Metal Festival in Gronau. Aegror then supported the bands Convictive and Welicoruss on the "Tales of Perdition Tour", which ran through North Rhine-Westphalia and Belgium .

style

The band works with melodious arrangements and atmospheric changes. Various aspects of Black Metal and Death Metal serve as the basis for this . Their music is characterized by epic melodies, blast beats and brutal riffs .

The voice of "Narthaas" usually also moves in for black metal typical range, however, is multifaceted and some with death metal -typical growls mixed. The sometimes clean vocals as well as the accompanying vocals are taken over by the guitarist “Abyssus”.

The first album, De Morbis , is musically influenced by the melodic black metal of the 1990s .

The band's lyrics are conceptually designed and tell stories about the band's own fictional character “Plaguebreeder”, as well as about diseases , their forms and other protagonists

Drummer "Mithyr" is responsible for the lyrics.

reception

De Morbis

Powermetal.de rated the debut album De Morbis with 8.5 out of 10 possible points.

“Aegror are basically not a band that relies on consistently harmonious sounds; the dissonances are an elementary part of the band's sound, but they are repeatedly undermined by short hymnic moments and raised to a level that would undoubtedly have been among the spearheads a decade and a half ago. In this respect, one can attest a certain timelessness to the new album "De Morbis", because even if many elements have to be ascribed to the later 90s Black Metals - for example the tendency towards death metallic riff attacks - the four musicians drive a quite independent Sound that is mainly characterized by the many strong breaks within the eight tracks. "

- Björn Backes : Powermetal.de

Metal.de was positively surprised by the debut.

“Without any demo or previous awareness, Aegror are releasing their first work, simply titled“ De Morbis ”, on the audience these days, and are consistently professional and mature, which is quite surprising after just one year of existence. Production, presentation and songs are perfectly balanced and testify to some work that would never suggest such a young age. "

- TB : metal.de

The Danish webzine Powerofmetal.dk awarded 80 out of 100 possible points.

"Overall, the technical level is very high and there is indeed lots of diversity and atmosphere without losing sight of the red thread. Aegror fits nicely into the contemporary black metal + scene and, honestly, it is a bit of a mystery to me that there is no label backing for this release since it easily stands up against much of the competition out there. "

Forgotten Tales

The British webzine brutalism.com gave Forgotten Tales the highest number of points .

“Hardly surprising really as the Germans always seem to know where to hit for maximum musical annihilation and this EP has done that and more - it simply shows an artistic and creative talent that is raw and unadulterated - so listen out for Aegror I think they will go the distance and become one of the top bands! "

- Pagan Hel : brutalism.com

The US webzine Metalcurse.com rated the EP with 8.25 out of 10 points.

"Nevertheless, the band possess a penchant for catchy, high-quality songwriting that cannot be denied, and an all-pro production definitely doesn't hurt matters, either."

Dead Man's Diary

Heavystageforce.rocks praises the second album Dead Man's Diary .

“I haven't heard such a varied Black Metal album in a long time and I claim that there is minimally one track on the record for every fan of the genre that he likes. Aegror has shown itself to be a strong and multi-faceted band, and one can only hope that they will stay true to their style. Even "big" bands can learn something from this band. "

- Sebi : heavystageforce.rocks

Bleeding4Metal.de awards 8 out of 10 points.

"As creative and versatile as the North Rhine-Westphalia deal with black and death steel on their second long-player, you can expect more hot irons from the men"

- Grid : Bleeding4metal.de

The Dutch webzine Lordsofmetal.nl rates the concept with 82 out of 100 points.

“Compared to the debut album seven years ago, the band has really made progression, the music sounds more varied, well balanced and a lot more professional. There is plenty of variation on the album to sit through and enjoy the whole 47 minutes of this record, and the fun thing about it is that there every songs tells a part of the whole story, so the whole album is a coherent piece of art .
