Aenny Loewenstein (* 1871 in Berlin ; † beginning of May 1925 there ) was a German painter and graphic artist.

life and work

Aenny Loewenstein joined the Association of Berlin Women Artists in 1898 . She remained a member of the association until 1918. She was a member of the Berlin Local Association of the German Art Cooperative from 1902. She studied with Margarete Hoenerbach from 1904 to 1907 and at times also in Paris . From 1906 to 1908 she worked as a teacher at the drawing and painting school of the VdBK; she participated in association exhibitions until the year she left.

In 1914 Loewenstein was awarded a silver medal at the International Exhibition for Book Trade and Graphics in Leipzig . In 1925 she took her own life. She had already discussed the subject of suicide with Käthe Kollwitz years before .

Loewenstein's works include portraits, landscapes and everyday scenes; she mainly created etchings and gouaches . Works by Loewenstein are available in the Kupferstichkabinett Dresden and in the Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin , as well as in the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa .
