description
The AM-23 is a 23 mm caliber gas pressure charger specially designed for use in aircraft . The developers adopted the design principle from the Afanasjew A-12.7 in the 12.7 × 108 mm caliber and the 23 mm SU-23 anti-aircraft gun . The AM-23 is used in twin mountings as defensive armament in various aircraft.

The AM-23 and the Grjasew-Schipunow GSch-23 both use ammunition in the 23 × 115 mm caliber . Compared to the ammunition used in the NS-23 and NR-23 with the same dimensions, the bullet shape was improved and the amount of powder increased, which increased the initial speed.
