Afobaka is a place in Suriname in the Brokopondo district .

The dam on the Brokopondo reservoir, which was built between 1960 and 1964, is located in Afobaka . The dam has a length of 12 km. To develop the dam and the village of Afobaka, the Aluminum Company of America ( Alcoa ) built a 75 km long traffic route from the aluminum smelter in Paranam made of red earth containing bauxite . The road connection was taken over by the state in 1968. The path, which is particularly dusty in the dry season and sometimes difficult to drive in the rainy season, was paved in 2009. The dam with hydroelectric power station is a tourist attraction and offers a beautiful view over the reservoir. Nearby is a recreation park with holiday homes and a swimming pool owned by the Suriname Aluminum Company (Suralco), a subsidiary of Alcoa.
