The African Rally Championship (officially " FIA African Rally Championship ") has been held without interruption since 1981, under the supervision of the FIA , on the African continent and Madagascar .

In its second year, the series was won by German Walter Röhrl with an Opel Ascona 400 , who in the same year also wrote the World Rally Championship (drivers' championship) in his name. Walter Röhrl is the only German winner of the rally. Record winner is Satwant Singh, from Zambia, with eight overall wins.

Rally vehicles of the Super 2000 class and Group N are permitted for the rally series . In the 2012 season there were a total of eleven races in various countries on the African continent on the calendar. The most famous rallies of the African Rally Championship are the Safari Rally , the Tanzania Rally , the Madagascar Rally and the Côte d'Ivoire Rally .
