Aftab Jawaid

Aftab Jawaid (* 1938 in Gurdaspur , India ) is a former Pakistani squash player and trainer.

Career

Aftab Jawaid was among the world's best in squash from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s. From 1963 to 1965 he won the British Amateur Championships . At the British Open , which at the time were still commonly regarded as the unofficial world championship, he reached the final three times. In 1966 he was defeated by Abdelfattah Ahmed Aboutaleb in four sets, the following year Jonah Barrington also in four sets. He played his third final in 1971, again against Jonah Barrington, who this time he was defeated in three sets. With the Pakistani national team he took in 1969 and 1971 at the World Cup in part. Both times the team finished the tournament in third place. After his playing career, he worked as a coach for many years: In addition to individual players, he also looked after the Pakistani national team for a long time.
