Gurdaspur ( Punjabi : ਗੁਰਦਾਸਪੁਰ) is a city ( Municipal Council ) in the Indian state of Punjab .
Gurdaspur is the district capital of the district of the same name . In the 2011 census, the population was 75,549, including suburbs ( outgrowths ) it was 77,928. Gurdaspur lies at an altitude of 264 m in the north Indian plain. The Beas flows past Gurdaspur 14 km east. The city is 35 km southwest of Pathankot .
Gurdaspur is a traffic hub in northwest India. The NH 15 road runs from Pathankot via Gurdaspur to Batala . The Pakistani border is 15 km west of Gurdaspur.
