Batala ( Panjabi ਬਟਾਲਾ ) is a city ( Municipal Council ) in the Indian state of Punjab .
Batala is located in the Gurdaspur district . In the 2011 census, the population was 156,619, including suburbs ( outgrowths ) there were 158,621. Batala lies at an altitude of 246 m in the lowlands. The city is located 30 km southwest of the district capital Gurdaspur and 35 km northeast of Amritsar . The NH 15 trunk road connects the cities with one another.
