Kurt Schönbach

Kurt Schönbach (born April 11, 1893 in Hermsdorf unterm Kynast ; † unknown) was a German entrepreneur and conservationist.

Life

Schönbach was born in the Silesian Giant Mountains as the son of a leather merchant, where he developed a deep love for nature and its wildlife in his childhood and youth. Like his father, he became a leather dealer. In 1919 he founded a leather shop in Görlitz and ten years later took over a leather shop in Großenhain .

In 1953 he became the nature conservation officer of the Grossenhain district . As such he supervised u. a. the Zschorna nature reserve, campaigned for the conservation of storks and against the misuse of air guns. He recorded many of his nature and animal observations in photos and films and gave numerous lectures in the district with his image material. In addition, he worked in the GDR's cultural association with nature and homeland friends, in the hunting advisory board and in training nature conservation workers. He was also a member of the commission for the beautification of the city of Grossenhain.
