Skyscraper is a planned roller coaster of the type Polercoaster , which is to be built in the SkyPlex leisure center in Orlando, Florida . The American and Swiss manufacturers US Thrill Rides and Intamin are developing the roller coaster and are planning an opening for 2017. The opening has now been postponed to 2020. The permit was granted by Orange County in late 2015 .

history

The development of Skyscraper began in 2012 after the owners of Mango's Tropical Café Orlando selected the Polercoaster roller coaster concept from US Thrill Rides as an attraction for their planned new Skyplex leisure center. After several successful negotiations on the purchase of the property, the planning and development of the roller coaster and the leisure center could begin.

In May 2014, an investor call was initiated via a website. Documents were revealed by an Orlando-based press agency showing that the proposed roller coaster could be built in central Florida. Skyscraper was officially announced on June 5, 2014 . The original plan was to start construction in 2015 and to open the railway in 2017.

technology

route

The 1,600 m long steel rail route is planned and designed by US Thrill Rides. It will mostly wind around a tower and have several rollover with zero g-rolls and raven turns .

Trains

Skyscraper will ride several small roller coaster trains. Each train consists of only one car and will have four seats in two rows. This means that eight passengers can travel per train. A maximum capacity of 1000 passengers per hour is expected. The seats will be fitted with lap bars. Shoulder straps are avoided so that the view is not obstructed.

Records

With the opening of Skyscraper , several world records are broken. The world record for the tallest roller coaster will go to Orlando at 153 m (501 ft.) 2016 This record is still of Kingda Ka in the US theme park Six Flags Great Adventure , New Jersey with a height of 139 m (456 ft.) Held. Skyscraper will have an inversion near the highest point of the ride, breaking the record for the highest inversion in the world at 52 m (170 ft.). This record has been held by GateKeeper at Cedar Point since 2013.

The roller coaster will also have the steepest descent with 123 °. It will be the only roller coaster in the world that will have two descents over 90 °.
