Gerhard Creutz

Gerhard Creutz (born March 16, 1911 in Copitz ; † September 18, 1993 in Berchtesgaden ) was a German ornithologist .

Life

Creutz was born the son of a print shop owner in Pirna. He completed his teacher training at the Pedagogical Institute of the Technical University in Dresden in 1933 in the subject of zoology with the thesis " Biology of the little ringed plover ". From 1945 to 1952 he was a teacher in Pillnitz and in 1951 founded the specialist group ornithology and bird protection in Dresden, which he headed until 1953. In 1954 he did his doctorate under Karl Jordan at the Institute of Zoology at the TH Dresden with a population study on pied flycatchers . In 1958, despite contradicting the centralist efforts in the GDR, he made a contribution to founding the Upper Lusatia Scientific Working Group in the Kulturbund. From 1953 to 1971 he was in charge of the Neschwitz bird sanctuary . Creutz was the author of numerous books on ornithology and, among other things, worked for the Neue Brehm library .

He is buried in Neschwitz .
