Agenioideus cinctellus is a Hymenoptera from the family of wasps (Pompilidae).

features

The animals reach a body length of 3.5 to 6.5 millimeters (females) or 3.5 to 5.5 millimeters (males). Their abdomen is black, the rest of the body color is very variable, so females may have reddish-brown legs or males whitish-spotted tibiae on their hind legs. The animals often have an oval spot on the inner edge of their eyes. In the similar Agenioideus usurarius , the third tergite is colored red, the head, thorax and legs are black.

Occurrence

The species occurs in Europe, but only in the mountains in the south and is absent in Western Europe. It colonizes all dry and temperature-favored, open habitats, also in the settlement area. The animals fly in one generation from early May to late September. The species is widespread in Central Europe.

Way of life

The nest is created in a warm place in cavities such as cracks in walls, wooden crevices, snail shells or abandoned wasp nests. The brood is usually fed with crab spiders or jumping spiders . The species is parasitized by the cuckoo wasp Ceropales maculata .
