Agenioideus is a species of wasps (Pompilidae). There are 21 species in Europe.
features
The species of the genus Agenioideus are small to medium-sized wasps, with different body types. The head and thorax are finely structured. The inner edges of the large compound eyes are slightly divergent below. The frontal plate ( clypeus ) is short and wide, more or less convex and the apical edge is truncated, or more or less concave. The labrum is partially or completely covered by the front plate. The mandibles are pointed and have one or two extra teeth. The metapostnotum is clearly visible and usually about the same length as the metanotum . The propodeum is increasingly curved backwards, it either has oblique grooves or is densely covered in silvery hair. The wings are more or less tinted brown, the wing mark ( pterostigma ) is large. It is the same length or longer than the cross artery 2r-rs. The legs are thorny, a tarsal ridge is formed, but is inconspicuous in some species. The tarsal limbs and the claws are elongated and have erect, pointed teeth. In the males, the visible part of the subgenital plate is folded lengthways or almost flat. The claws of the fore tarsi are asymmetrical, the inner one is bidentate, the outer one has a tooth.
Way of life
The wasps mainly colonize open and sunny habitats. The females lay their nests in existing cavities or dig them in the ground. The cells are either closed with excavated material, which is scraped out with the front legs, or other material is transported in with the mandibles. The prey is only briefly paralyzed. The brood is supplied with spiders from the families Agelenidae , Araneidae , Dysderidae , Linyphiidae , Philodromidae , Pisauridae , Salticidae , Segestriidae , Thomisidae and Titanoecidae .
