The Agency for Leap Innovation is a federal agency that aims to promote disruptive technologies . Research ideas that have the potential for leap innovation are to be discovered and further developed. The federal government will be a partner. The agency works on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy . The American research agency Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa) is considered a model .

There are various abbreviations for the agency: SPRIN-D and SPRIND .

The agency is initially planned to run for ten years. The budget for this is around one billion euros. Ten members from science, business, ministries and politics should be represented on the Supervisory Board. Rafael Laguna de la Vera was appointed by the federal government in July 2019 as the founding director of the agency .

history

In August 2018, the federal government decided to set up an agency for leap innovations. A founding commission was appointed in March 2019. In October 2019, the notarial certification of the agency's founding took place in the New City Hall in Leipzig and the agency moved into its business premises.
