Rafael Laguna de la Vera

Rafael Laguna de la Vera (* 1964 in Leipzig ) is a German software - entrepreneurs . In July 2019 he was appointed founding director of the Agency for Jump Innovation ("SprinD") by the federal government.

Life

Rafael Laguna de la Vera was born in Leipzig, then GDR , in 1964 . Since his father is Spanish, the family was allowed to leave for the Federal Republic in 1974 . The family settled in Bleche in the Sauerland . Rafael Laguna is married and has two grown children.

Rafael Laguna de la Vera is founding director of "SprinD", the agency for leap innovations in the Federal Republic of Germany. It is intended to implement an innovation policy approach to promoting disruptive innovations that is unique in Germany.

Rafael Laguna has been a successful entrepreneur and investor in software for over 30 years. At the age of 16 he founded his first software company (Elephant Software), at 21 he programmed a complete cash register system for the beverage industry (dicomputer) and at 31 he sold his first company (micado).

At the turn of the millennium, Laguna worked as a technology investor, interim manager and advisor for venture capital funds. First he was involved in the rescue and sale of the Nuremberg-based SUSE Linux  AG to Novell from 2001 to 2004 . From 2003 to 2006 he was involved in the restart of bäurer AG until it was sold to the Sage Group.

Since January 2008, Laguna has been CEO of Open-Xchange AG, which he co-founded in 2005. With 270 employees, the company is the leading provider of open source software for e-mail and office productivity.
