In his main work, Games not with the exchange rate ( Chinese  不要 玩弄 汇率 ), he denounces the exchange rate policy of the USA and Japan because they demand an increase in the renminbi and thus implicitly damage the Chinese economy. He gained international fame through a lecture in Shanghai in which he criticized Xi Jinping's economic policy and claimed that economic growth was much lower than the official statistics indicate. Official economic growth in 2018 was 6.5%, but according to the statistics quoted by Xiang, it was only 1.67% or even negative. He urged economic and especially tax reforms. He is also critical of the policy of pushing back the private sector, which was propagated at the beginning of 2018. The lecture was recorded as a YouTube video and censored in the PRC.
