Agnes Afiyo (born July 8, 1978 ) is a former Ghanaian athlete .

life and career

Afiyo is from the Eastern Region ; she is a Christian , studied in the summer of 1998 and at that time weighed 70 kg and was 170 cm tall. At the Junior African Championships in 1995 in Bouaké , Ivorian , Afiyo won the silver medal in the javelin throw (39.00 m), two years later in Ibadan, Nigeria, the gold medal in the javelin throw (53.54 m) and bronze over 200 m (24.32 s). In 1995, 1996 and 1998 she was each Ghanaian national champion with the spear. In 1997 she won a total of six national championship titles, in July 1997 Afiyo improved her own Ghanaian national record in the javelin to the record distance of 55.36 m. Afiyo was considered to be “multi-talented” and, in addition to the javelin throw, he also competed in the shot put , jumping competitions such as long jump , sprint disciplines and relays . A routine medical examination at a youth event in France in 1997 cast doubt on the gender of Afiyo. In August 1999 it was reported that after further medical tests, Afiyo's sex had been determined to be male . The Ghana Amateur Athletics Association (GAAA) then recognized all results and records from Afiyos. Further details are not known.
