Agnosphitys cromhallensis is a two-legged, carnivorous archosaur from the late Triassic of England . In the official description, the descriptors represent the thesis that agnosphities , the Herrerasauridae and Eoraptor are, contrary to general opinion, not dinosaurs , but only a subgroup. Today, however, they are classified within the Saurischia dinosaur group.
The genus name is made up of the Greek words at = not, gnosis = knowledge, phylon = race, the epithet is named after its place of discovery, the Cromhall Quarry of Avon, England.
The holotype material (VMNH 1745) forms a left ilium ( iliac bone ) discovered in 1990 in the Cromhall Quarry . Other material from the same site was also ascribed to this animal, including the left maxilla (upper jaw), several astragalus ( talus ), a humerus (humerus) and teeth. The chronological classification is still uncertain, the finds probably come from the Norium and the Rhaetian .
Agnosphitys was no longer than ten feet.
