Agogo (Ghana)

Agogo is a city in the Asante Akim North District in the Ashanti Region in Ghana . It is located about 80 kilometers east of the regional capital Kumasi .
In 1970, around 14,710 people lived in Agogo. The population had risen to 18,879 in 1984. In 2000, around 28,271 people lived in the city. Projections for January 2007 indicate a population of 32,859.
There are two senior secondary schools in the city, Agogo State College and Collins Secondary / Technical . A training center for nursing staff has also been set up with the Agogo Nurses Training College . In Agogo is one of the three headquarters of the Presbyterian University College . This is where the well-known Faculties of Agriculture, Science and Medicine of Presbyterian University College are located. The university has other offices in Abetifi and Akropong .
The population has access to a larger hospital with a laboratory. It also functions as a research station for the Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research (KCCR) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi. Through this connection there is also a cooperation with the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg. There are also two smaller clinics in operation, each with a medical assistant. There are six traditional obstetricians working in the Agogo catchment area. The supply of medicines to the population is organized through eleven sales outlets. A pharmacy opened in Agogo in 1999.
