biography

Agostino was an Italian Baroque painter who worked mainly in Cremona . He was a student of the painter Giovanni Battista Tortiroli and worked with Luigi Miradori. Robert De Longe (1646-1709) was one of his students. His style inspired by historical themes and his portraits are similar to those of Paolo Veronese . Agostino Bonisoli was invited to the court by the third Prince of Bozzolo (MN) Ferdinando Gonzaga (1643 - 1672) around 1670 and continued his work under the later Prince Gianfrancesco Gonzaga (1646 - 1703). He kept the Akademia del Nudo active until his death from urinary retention in 1700. Many of his works have been preserved in the churches of the Bozzolo area. His greatest work was painted for the Church of San Francesco in Cremona and shows a dispute between Saint Anthony and the tyrant Ezzelino .
