The Ergene (ancient name Agrianes ) is a 281 km long tributary of the Hebros / Evros / the Mariza in the Turkish part of Thrace ( Eastern Thrace ).

Surname

The ancient name for this river was Agrianes. Today he is called Ergene in Turkish and Εργίνος (Erginos) in Modern Greek .

geography

The source is in the Strandscha Mountains not far from the Black Sea , the mouth at the Mariza , which forms the border with Greece here, about 10 km north of the city of İpsala . The catchment area covers 17,323 square kilometers. In the lower part of its strongly meandering course, the river is canalized.
