Çerkezköy ( Circassian Village / Circassian Village ) is a regional center west of Istanbul .
geography
Çerkezköy is located about 80 km west of Istanbul city center in Eastern Thrace . It has 123,119 inhabitants (2014).
history
Like the village, it was founded together with the villages of Çatalca , Şarköy and Siliviri after the Caucasus War in 1864, when a total of two million Circassians and Tatars from the Caucasus were settled in Turkey .
The long insignificant village has meanwhile developed into an up-and-coming Turkish industrial city and a district town in the province of Tekirdağ ,
economy
Electrical engineering and the automotive supply industry are concentrated here. Since 2019, Grundig televisions have been manufactured in a newly built Arçelik plant, among other things . The German company Coko-Werk has a location here with 270 employees.
traffic
The Çerkezköy train station of the same name is located on the İstanbul Sirkeci – Swilengrad railway line . The Orient Express also stopped here . A few kilometers to the southwest runs the European route 80 , which takes you to Istanbul, 100 km away, and to neighboring European countries.
