Company history

The company was founded in 1954 with the construction of the first plant in Sütlüce and began with the production of washing machines in 1959, and one year later with that of refrigerators . The factory was relocated from Sütlüce to Çayırova in 1968. From this main plant, parts of the company were gradually outsourced: in 1975 the production of refrigerators, for which a plant in Eskişehir was built. Two years later, a compressor factory followed, also in Eskişehir, and two years later (1979) the production of vacuum cleaners through a factory in Izmir and in 1993 the production of dishwashers through a factory in Ankara (1993). In 1996 a plant for the production of air conditioning systems was opened in Çayırova.

In 1999 the Koç group was radically transformed. In the course of this reorganization, Arçelik A.Ş., Türk Elektrik Endüstrisi A.Ş., Atılım A.Ş. and Gelişim A.Ş. and Ardim , which was outsourced by Arçelik in 1977, was combined under Arçelik. In 2001, the company took over the marketing and distribution of Beko Elektronik A.Ş., a sister company specializing in consumer electronics. The aim of this restructuring was to increase the effectiveness of the entire Koç group through a centralized system. Several plants were merged or relocated to more convenient locations in terms of transport.

In 2000, a cooperation with LG followed , Arçelik-LG Air Conditioning Industry and Trade Inc. In 2002, Arçelik acquired the German company Blomberg (and with it the Austrian company Elektra Bregenz, which was taken over by Blomberg in 1978 ) together with the trademark rights to Elektra Bregenz and Tirolia English company Leisure and Flavel and the Romanian Arctic .

In 2009 Arçelik took over all shares in the listed sister company Grundig Elektronik A.Ş., which is active in the entertainment electronics sector.
