Süleymanpaşa is a district of the Turkish province of Tekirdağ and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi (city municipality) Tekirdağ . After the provincial capital was declared Büyükşehir belediyesi in 2014, the former central district was renamed Süleymanpaşa.
The district is located in the center of the province and includes the provincial capital on the coast. It borders on the Sea of Marmara in the southeast, Şarköy in the south, Malkara in the west, Hayrabolu in the northwest , Muratlı in the northeast and Çorlu in the east . The D-110 road runs through the district, coming in the west from the Greek border at İpsala , reaching the coast at Tekirdağ and following this in the east to Istanbul . From the capital, the D-565 leads north to Muratlı and a country road to Hayrabolu in the north-west. Southwest of the center is the Yazır Göleti reservoir , in which several small watercourses flow together and from which the Ana Deresi flows south into the sea. The Tekke Deresi rises to the west of Tekirdağ and is dammed up in the Bıyıkali Göleti to the north . About parallel to this, the Çikköy Deresi and the Kılıçova Deresi (also Yılancıova Deresi ) flow , which unite to form a river, which is also called Ana Deresi and flows further north into the Ergene Nehri . North of the city is the small reservoir Yeşilsırt Göleti . The district is mostly flat, in the south lies a branch of the Ganos Dağı (also Tekirdağ ) mountain range with the 334 meter high Gaziyiğit Tepesi .
The name goes back to Süleyman Pasha, the eldest son of Orhan I , who was the first commander of the Ottoman troops in Thrace in the 14th century .
