Malkara (old Persian name: Malgara ) is a city in Turkey on the main road from Tekirdağ to Keşan . It has 54,121 inhabitants (2012) and is located in the historical region of Eastern Thrace . Malkara belongs to the province of Tekirdağ .
Malkara is located in the agricultural center of Thrace. The landscape is partly wooded and hilly. It is well suited for hiking. The main products are cheese and wheat.
history
The ancient Thracian - Greek city was by the Persians under Xerxes I occupied. Their name is derived from the Persian word margaar .
