Şarköy is a district town and a district in the south of the Turkish province of Tekirdağ in Eastern Thrace . Şarköy has 17,095 and the district 30,409 inhabitants (as of 2010).

The district borders on the province of Çanakkale in the south . The city itself is on the coast of the Marmara Sea . There are 26 villages in the district . The name of the city is wrongly mentioned as the origin for the naming of the Şarköy kilime , but these derive their name from the homonymous Turkish name of the place Pirot , which was also called Şarköy in Ottoman times.
