Agrico is a Dutch company that is involved in the cultivation and marketing of potatoes . Activities include the breeding of potato varieties, the wholesale trade and the packaging of potatoes in packaging for consumers. Up until 2010, Agrico bred potato varieties specifically for the processing industry, including the chips, French fries and starch industries. This industrial potato range was sold to Aviko .

Company structure and products

The annual turnover is 300 million euros, which is generated by around 180 employees. Around 1300 farmers grow potatoes for Agrico. Well-known seed potato varieties from Agrico breeding are Provento , Agata and Markies .

history

In 1973, Agrico was founded as a merger of three companies. Onions had also been traded since 1977, but stopped again in 1988 due to poor profitability. The takeover of Wolf & Wolf in 1993 increased the market share for seed potatoes in the Netherlands from 25 to 35%. Agrico thus consolidated its position as the largest Dutch seed potato company. Agrico is represented in 75 countries in 2011.
