Shay Elliott Memorial

The Shay Elliott Memorial is a cycling - day race , which in since 1958. Ireland is discharged.

Initially the race was called Route de Chill Mhantain . In the late 1960s it was in honor of Seamus Elliott , the first Irishman who the yellow jersey in the Tour de France conquered, Shay Elliott Trophy called. The winner was honored by Elliott himself. After his death in 1971 it was renamed again, the Shay Elliott Memorial . The Elliott is considered the most important one-day race in Ireland after the national road championship.

Until 2001 the race was a national competition.
