David Patrick McCann (born March 17, 1973 in Belfast ) is a former Northern Irish road cyclist.

Athletic career

In 1996 he won the Isle of Man International (also Manx Trophy), which was one of the most traditional international road races in Great Britain. He was able to repeat this success in 2002. David McCann became a professional at CCC Mat in 2001 and then one year each at Volksbank-Ideal and Team Endurasport.com-Principia . From mid-2004 to 2006 he drove for the Giant Asia Racing Team , to which he returned twice in 2008 and from 2010 to 2012. The multiple Irish road race and individual time trial champion celebrated his successes on an international level, especially in Asiaand ended the 2005 season with a fifth place in the UCI Asia Tour , a result that he was able to improve in 2006 and 2010 as fourth. After winning the Herald Sun Tour in 2005, he also finished seventh on the 2006 UCI Oceania Tour .

Overall, McCann was Irish champion nine times in individual time trials and road races . He won the Irish race at An Post Rás twice .

McCann started three times - in 1996 , 2000 and 2012 - at the Olympic Games, in 1996 and 2000 in road races, in 2012 in road races and individual time trials, but was unable to place at the front in any of the participants.

At the end of the 2013 season he ended his career as a professional cyclist.
