Anthony "Tommy" Evans (born March 27, 1973 in Banbridge ) is an Irish cycling coach and former cyclist .
Career as an active athlete
Tommy Evans was one of the dominant Irish cyclists in home turf races from the mid 1990s to the 2000s. As early as 1991 he won the Tour of Ireland as a junior in his age group. In 1995 he finished third in the Irish elite road championship. In the following year, he decided a stage and the overall ranking of the Rás Tailteann stage race for himself.
In 1999 Evans was Irish road racing champion , third in the national individual time trial championships and won the Irish Sea Tour of the North , which he won again in 2003. In 2002 he was third in the Irish championship in cyclo-cross and road races. In 2004 Evans won the Tour of Ulster and 2005 Ras Connachta . In 2006 he was again third in the Irish time trial championship.
Since 1999 Evans has also held records over several distances on the track .
Evans as a coach
After his retirement from cycling Tommy Evans coach the Irish Cycling Federation was Cycling Ireland , with the declared aim of a team for the team pursuit at the track cycling at the 2012 Olympic Games to London to send. However, Evans threw in the towel after the 2010 UCI Track World Championships in Copenhagen . Since 2011 he has worked as head coach for the Triathlon Ireland association .
