Karl McCarthy (* 1928 in Cork ; † 20th or 21st century) was an Irish cyclist and entrepreneur .
In 1950 Karl McCarthy was Irish road racing champion and won the Belfast - Dublin - Fast. In 1951 he was ninth overall in the Tour of Britain , in 1953 he won Dublin- Galway -Dublin. The following year he finished ninth in the overall ranking of the Tour of Ireland .
In 1966 McCarthy founded Biocel for applied chemistry in his hometown of Cork, now with a PhD . In memory of him, the company will award a Karl McCarthy Prize to students in the Faculty of Food Science and Technology at University College Cork . Karl McCarthy was still connected to cycling as a functionary in the Irish Cycling Association after his resignation as an active member . For several years the Karl McCarthy Memorial race was run.
