The Aguirre Point is a headland on the northern coast of Elephant Iceland in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located 5.5 km west of Cape Valentine and 2.5 km west of Téllez Point .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2019. It is named after León Aguirre Romero, second officer on the Yelcho under Captain Luis Pardo , who on August 30, 1916, was responsible for the rescue of the participants of the Endurance Expedition (1914–1917 ) by the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton .
