Agustí Cabruja i Auguet (* 1911 in Salt near Girona , † 1983 in Mexico City ) was a Spanish writer and journalist from Catalonia .

Life

Agustí Cabruja i Auguet initially worked as a journalist for the daily newspaper L'Autonomista in Girona. He also worked for the magazines La Humanitat , La Campana de Gràcia and other publications in the republican press.

During the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1939, Cabruja i Auguet was - as an active member of the Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) - Secretary of the Governor of Girona. In 1939, shortly before the Girona region was captured by Franco's fascist troops , Cabruja i Auguet had to flee to France with the remains of the Ejército Popular de la República (the republican people's army) . After internment in the Argelès-sur-Mer camp , Cabruja i Auguet emigrated to Mexico in 1942 , where he first ran a shop and later worked as an editor for the UTEHA publishing house. He published several collections of poetry, novels and biographies and wrote for the Catalan exile publications Pont Blau , La Nostra Revista , Quaderns de l'exili in Mexico City.

The city of Salt paid tribute to Agustí Cabruja i Auguet on February 24, 1984 for his services to the Second Spanish Republic by naming a street after his name.
