history

The first documentary mention of Falkenbach dates back to April 8, 1386. Margrave Wilhelm I of Meißen assigned the rule of Scharfenstein with associated villages, including Falkenbach, as a widow's residence to the widow Anargs von Waldenburg . It is believed that the settlement took place as early as the second half of the 12th century. At the end of the 15th century, amethyst was expertly mined in the Falkenbacher Seidelgrund .
With the Reformation in 1536/1537 Falkenbach came to the parish of Schönbrunn.

August Schumann mentions Falkenbach in the State Lexicon of Saxony in 1815 regarding, among other things:

“It has 37 houses, 245 inhabitants with 127 cows and 310 sheep, and a mill with 12 inhabitants, (the sky mill.) In the corridors of this village, like in Mildenau and Groß-Rückerswalde, a lot of good flax is being built, and the inhabitants thus conduct a considerable trade to Lusatia, Bohemia and Nuremberg. "

From 1855 Falkenbach had its own school, until then the children were taught in neighboring Schönbrunn. Two estates were built on Falkenbacher Flur adjacent to Wiesenbad in 1861 and 1865, so that Hinterfalkenbach was created . The place was electrified in 1913, and a municipal office was built in 1926. Hosiery was manufactured in the local stocking factory since 1927.

On January 1, 1956, Himmelmühle was reclassified to the newly formed municipality of Thermalbad Wiesenbad.

On January 1, 1999, the previously independent municipalities of Falkenbach, Gehringswalde, Hilmersdorf and Schönbrunn merged with the city of Wolkenstein, Falkenbach became a district of Wolkenstein.
