Area natural monument

In general, you can easily observe rare species of birds such as kingfishers or dippers . A herd of around 20 European mouflons has lived in the surrounding spruce forests since around the year 2000 . A total of three areas have been designated as nature reserves for the time being. These are:

At the Lazy Bridge

This area represents a flat and intermediate moor area. Among other things, rushes and sedges grow there , as well as the typical Erzgebirge species of green peat moss and bristle grass . You can also find marsh plants such as butterwort , feverish clover , lice weed and the typical Erzgebirge plant barwort . The latter in large quantities.

Schenkwiese at the Schafschwemme

The Schenkwiese is a wet meadow for a few protected orchid species. Other moisture-loving species such as the round-leaved sundew also grow in this biocenosis .

Lower Heidelbachtal

Between the Heidelbachmühle and the mouth of the stream in the Zschopau you can find some rare orchids and lime-loving plants. The Heidelbach lime works , which was first mentioned in a document in 1746, was located in this area until 1901 .

Buildings

  • The so-called artificial wall in the upper section is part of a former mining company.
  • In the lower part of the valley there is the so-called Heidelbachmühle and the forestry department, near which several lime kilns used to stand.

Regular events

  • In the middle of the valley are the so-called fish ponds, where the Heidelbachtal Festival takes place every year on the Whitsun weekend.
