Agustín González (* 1900 in Tequila , Jalisco ; † 1985 ), also known by the nickname Escopeta ( Spanish for " gun "), was a Mexican football player and sports commentator . He got his unusual nickname because of his height and stature. Because he was extremely tall and slender, so that his shadow cast on the wall was reminiscent of an upright shotgun.
Life
As a child, his family moved to Mexico City , where González lived most of his life. At the age of 12 he joined the capital club CF México , where he played for a total of 14 years: first in attack and later in defense . In 1926 he moved to Club Deportivo Guadalajara , but two years later a knee injury forced him to end his footballing career prematurely.
He then worked as a pulquero , taxi driver, truck driver, boxer and bullfighter. In the 1930s he coached two soccer teams called Aztecas and Argos , both of which were part of the capital police force. He also worked occasionally as a referee . But his favorite and longest time was to work as a football commentator for the radio ; first on the radio and later on television. He set several milestones in the process: In 1938, at the Central America and Caribbean Games, he was the first reporter to broadcast an away game of the Mexican national soccer team home on the radio. At the Football World Cup in Brazil in 1950 , he and Fernando Marcos were among the Mexican sports commentators.
