Tequila , completely Villa de Santiago de Tequila , is a small town in the Mexican state of Jalisco , administrative seat of the municipality of Tequila and famous worldwide for the spirit of the same name . The city has achieved great prosperity through the income from the tequila distillery and therefore has a very well-groomed appearance. Tequila is a so-called Pueblo Mágico and a popular destination for foreign tourists.

Tequila has a subtropical climate with an annual average of 23.2 ° C and rainfall of 1073 millimeters.

On April 15, 1530 the place was founded under the name Villa de Santiago de Tequila by Franciscans under the direction of Fray Juan Calero. The royal deputy Antonio de Mendoza stayed in Tequila from October to December 1541 to put down the uprising of the indigenous Caxcan. In 1600 Don Pedro de Tagle built the first tequila factory in town.

From 1770, the city built various Spanish schools in order to displace the indigenous languages . In 1786 an epidemic spread that killed large parts of the population. At that time there was only one practicing doctor in town. On March 27, 1824, Tequila was declared an independent town. On January 9, 1874, Tequila was promoted to town by Decree 384. In 2001 the Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Tequila was inaugurated by the Governor Jaliscos Francisco Ramírez Acuña and the Mayor José Guadalupe Núñez Rodríguez.

Tequila is located on Highway 15 between Guadalajara and Magdalena and is connected to the rail network.

Established businesses

Tequila lives mainly from the distilleries and tourism. The international tequila distillery José Cuervo is particularly well known . Other important distilleries are the Tequila Sauza and the Tequila D'Reyes. The term tequila is protected and may therefore only be used by tequilerías from Jalisco.

Trade fairs and exhibitions

From November 26th to December 12th, the National Tequila Fair takes place every year, a worth seeing advertising event for tequila with cockfights, mariachis and fireworks.

Many visitors to tequilas are tourists who go on a day trip from Puerto Vallarta or Guadalajara .

Culture

Traditions and Customs

Every day at 9 p.m. the blessing takes place in front of the temple, during which the pastor rings the bell three times. Everyone in the area stands up, turns off the television or radio, interrupts their activity and faces the church.

education

In 2001 the Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Tequila was inaugurated by the governor Jaliscos Francisco Ramírez Acuña and the then mayor José Guadalupe Núñez Rodríguez.
