Pueblo Magico
A Pueblo Mágico ('Magical Place') is a place in Mexico that has been recognized as particularly worth seeing because of its typical and well-kept character. Most are located in the central Mexican highlands and showcase colonial architecture.

The Pueblo Mágico award has been presented by SECTUR (Secretariat for Tourism in Mexico) since 2001. The Pueblos Mágicos program in Mexico was originally a strategy to preserve historical Mexico and to build or expand a tourist infrastructure. The award-winning locations will also be given help with advertising and modernization. Today, the program is mainly used to help small, lesser-known places to become more popular with tourists. Most of the towns that are designated as Pueblo Mágico are not particularly large, but are no less worth seeing. At the end of 2014, 83 villages were allowed to call themselves Pueblo Mágico ; 28 locations were added in 2015 and another 10 in 2018.
criteria
The minimum requirements for the location for an award are:
- geographical proximity to major tourist destinations or large cities
- a sufficiently good transport connection
- a religious or historical meaning
- the willingness of the city administration and the population to participate in the program
