Magdalena de Kino is a city with 26,605 inhabitants (2010) in the Mexican state of Sonora . Magdalena de Kino is the administrative seat of the Municipio Magdalena .
history
The area that today forms the municipality was inhabited by the Papago and Pima Indians. The city was founded at the beginning of the 17th century by the Baptist lieutenant Juan Escalante. It was named after Eusebius Franz Kuehn (his family name was reproduced in Spanish with Kino), who played an important role when it was founded.
