Aheads was a German punk band from the East Westphalian city of Herford . It existed under initially changing names from 1975 to 1983.
history
The Herford band Aheads was one of the first punk bands in the East Westphalia region . In 1975 they were founded as the "Ron Age Band". The first appearance was in 1977 in Hellepark under the name “Those Fuckin'Aheads”, based on a rock band from a comic by Robert Crumb . After the first punk songs from England were heard on the radio broadcast by John Peel in Germany, the band began to write their own songs , inspired by a visit to a Wire concert in 1978. In 1982 the Aheads took part in the Soundtracks for Downfall 1 tour with Slime , Beton Combo and Middle Class Fantasies . They played other concerts with the Dead Kennedys and Fehlfarben . In Berlin they played in KZ 36 and several times in SO 36 . The Aheads had their last appearance in January 1983 in the Audimax of Bielefeld University . During the concert there were quarrels within the band, which then broke up.
After the breakup, Bernd Weitkamp, who is now known as an artist in Herford under the name Weizenfeld, and Werner Kureinski played in several bands that were not very long-lived in the 1980s. In 1988 they released the single Fig. 320 under the name “Roll on Roll off” and the mini album Pussypush, which they also produced themselves .
On the compilation Pop Portrait , published in 2008 and compiled by Tocotronic , the Aheads are represented with the song Minuteman .
Andy Stillion, the band's lead singer, died in July 2010 while on a boat trip near the British Farne Isles .
In 2011 the remaining band members published a retrospective with all songs produced including a DVD insert with photos from their active career.
